Roll With It

I blink, and suddenly I'm behind on blogging again!

We saw more shows in class this week, starting with Woman in Mind for Interrelationships which was really good, very well done with great acting, but a bit bizarre.  That one Keeley and I had plenty of time to get to, got lost because Keeley thought she knew where she was going better than she did, ended up flagging down a taxi and paid 3 pounds for them to get us there with 5 minutes to spare.  It was an adventure.  My feet were sooooooo wet because it wasn't raining on us, but it had been pouring earlier.

Then we saw A View From The Bridge, which was fantastic.  Great set, fantastic acting.  The "New York" accents were occasionally special, but otherwise it was great.

Last we saw Othello for Shakespeare, which was pretty awful.  The set and lights were questionable, the acting was iffy, especially because we were seeing an understudy in the role of Iago....and he wasn't right for it at all.  There were other actors in the group I thought would be better suited to be the understudy.  This one was supposed to play Cassio, which makes significantly more sense.  They had a lot of mishaps, some because of the understudy, others just happened.  In the fight scene a candle was knocked over on stage, and a minute and a half later (although it was on what is presumably a fire proof cloth since the fire hadn't spread at all) one of the miscellaneous people came out to take the candle off stage.  For those unfamiliar, this is the scene where Othello and Desdemona are alone in the bedroom and he's trying to kill her.  It was pretty awkward, but I'm glad the place didn't burn down.

This week I also went to the V&A twice, first to look around, which was really fun!  It was HUGE!  I'm going to have to go back.  A lot.  You were right, Greg.  The second time was to do research in the National Art Library, which was very cool and very scary.  It's a library where they bring out the books you request for you, so there's a lot of protocol and it's EXTRA quiet.  And you can't bring in a bag larger than a certain size, so I had to check my purse and put the most important things in a clear plastic bag with nothing securing it closed, which of course I then spilled in the super-quiet library.  It was awesome.  Got a lot of information for my British Art and Architecture paper though.

I also have noticed something about the Londoners.  SLOWEST people EVER.  Since it's a city, you think people would walk like they were going somewhere, but no.  For example, in a supermarket or in a street, I usually try to watch out and keep out of other people's way.  Not so much with the people here.  They will walk allllll over the sidewalk, run into you and then give you a dirty look for it, and walk 5 people across so no one else can pass.  It's frustrating.  More frustrating than walking through my high school between classes.  People are generally very polite here, and it just seems strange that that doesn't carry over to walking and navigating.  So strange.
